Highlight if storefront component was updated in base language

Hi,

is there a way to see if the translation of storefront components is outdated.

When we change the theme, we need to search and find every single section/ element and retranslate it.

Is there a way that the elements are highlighted/ marked once they are updated?

Or is there a best practice to easily see it as the people changing the website is another team then the translation team.

Weglot has this feature already 4 yrs. ago.

Thank you for your question!

To my regret, there is no 'outdated' label for Storefront elements/ Store Components sections at the moment. But this feature was already added to our roadmap.

If the theme is being changed, we would recommend translating the Storefront elements section again as translations of each theme are unique, so that for the new theme new translations should be applied.

Hi, that's a great question. Unfortunately, not all translation apps offer automatic highlighting of outdated translations after theme changes. Some apps like Weglot, as you mentioned, do have such functionality. For others, best practice usually involves:

Keeping a changelog between teams so translators know which sections were updated.
Using consistent naming conventions in theme elements for easier tracking.
Regularly exporting the translation files (e.g. JSON or CSV) to compare them with previous versions.

You can also consider using Git or similar versioning tools on your theme code and translation files to spot differences. Some translation apps are starting to introduce detection tools, so it's worth checking with your specific provider if they offer this.
